Karen originally trained as a Biochemist at the University of Edinburgh, and following some years of research into cancer, genetic disorders and disease diagnostics, her interest in natural therapeutics led her to further her career in the healing sciences. 

In 2005 she obtained a First-Class Honours degree in Osteopathic Medicine and Diplomas in Naturopathy and Osteopathy from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine and was awarded a prize for Natural Therapeutics. During this degree she worked as a Natural Remedies adviser and practiced Sports Massage and Lymphatic Drainage. She completed postgraduate studies in Medical Acupuncture (dry needling), Cranial Osteopathy (Sutherland Cranial College), and Applied Kinesiology (ICAK).

Karen was chair of the UK chapter of ICAK and organised the UK advanced courses for over 10 years. She obtained her Diplomate qualification in 2014 (DIBAK). Over the years she has studied advanced AK techniques in areas including Orthomolecular Medicine, Brain Injury and Recovery, Retained Neonatal Reflexes and Learning Difficulties, Visceral Osteopathy, Cranial Nerve Evaluation, Peripheral Nerve Entrapment, Ligament Interlink Technique, Injury Recall Technique, and Psychosomatics.

Karen teaches postgraduate courses in Applied Kinesiology which are open to practitioners who have completed a 3000 hour full time undergraduate education (i.e. 3+ years) in a medically oriented degree such as osteopathy, chiropractic, physiotherapy, medicine, dentistry, or veterinary medicine.
